Tired of listening to the same news about the gender gap in coding in India, I, Ekamjot Kaur, a class 12 student from Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh, took this up as a mission and created this website to build a community of young female programmers. My aim is to make every female proud of herself and to close the gender gap by imparting knowledge. I started this programme at my school and have trained over 200+ young 7th to 8th graders (national and international) in the basics of Python. I am determined to change the world by imparting free and quality education to everyone, and this website is a small milestone in my mission.
Apart from coding, I am passionate about reading and listening to music. As Nelson Mandela rightly said, "Education is the most powerful weapon that you can use to change the world". I wish to use my knowledge of this subject to make coding an interesting subject for everyone. STEM always motivates me and, as a part of my school journey, I am part of various academic STEM competitions, including olympiads and science exhibitions. My 3 research papers on STEM have been published in the International Journal of Innovative Science & Research Technology in 2022. My detailed profile is available on TOP | Ekamjot (ekamjotkaur8055.wixsite.com)
Other things I enjoy doing include playing throwball, which is a sport that originated in India and is played mostly by women. I'm also associated as a volunteer with NSS (National Service Scheme) to uplift the poor and needy. My school partner and I won the first prize in the second round of the 47th State Level Science, Mathematics, and Environment Exhibition, organised by the State Council of Educational Research and Training from November 26–30, 2019.(Click here to see more details).
I was exposed to the world of coding through the programme of Young Technology Scholars (Cohort of 2020). My mentors in YTS were Dr. Ravi Jasuja: Director, Translational Research & Discovery, RPMH, Aging & Metabolism, BWH, Harvard Medical School; Dr. Hanumant Singh: Director, Northeastern University; Ex-Scientist, MIT-WHOI; Dr. Jitendra P. Khatait: Faculty, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT-Delhi; and Dr. Hanumant Singh Shekhawat: Faculty, Department of Electronics & Electrical Engineering, IIT-Guwhati.
I wish to make this journey of coding memorable and fun for you. I love to teach kids and hence have taken up this initiative along with my studies. I wish you all the best! My message to all parents is to "Honour your daughters as daughters are honourable."
